Finding purpose after falling (Original)
This acrylic painting of fallen gum leaves highlights momentum in nature—the cycles of growth and decay and the reality of impermanence. Fallen gum leaves are more than they seem: they shelter insects, feed the soil, slow erosion and quietly return nutrients to the earth. Their shapes, shifting colours and purpose inspire me.
The painting began with bright colours, pulling a palette knife across the canvas to shape the leaves, the colours were toned down gradually with each brush layer. Making the work was an experience of flow and allowed me to settle into rhythm. Painting helps me share an appreciation for how beauty, loss and renewal are all part of nature’s movement.
